Thanks for this, and for the linked articles. They’ve got me thinking about how banning transgender athletes does nothing to address the real issues of inequity, particularly in women’s sports. Also some new thoughts about the purpose of sports in schools and our cultural idolatry of winners.
Hi, this post is beautifully written. I love how you connect the dots and wholeheartedly agree with all you’ve written. I appreciate all of your musings- they keep me feeling hopeful. Thank you!
This will date me, but I thought that we came to terms with transgender athletes back in 1976-77, when Renee Richards won the right to compete at the U.S. Open. Uh, no. Every few years, I think, "This is progress!" But our battles for equity continue, and we as human beings can't win until we accept that all our surface differences can't be eliminated.
Completely off the subject, but my first thought upon opening your email was, “Hey, I had that same sweater and those same teeth!” Thanks for the rest of the article, too.

I totally agree with your viewpoint, expressed so intelligently and caring, here, MaryAnn 🏳️⚧️

Yes, this was right before the braces!
Beautifully said, MaryAnn. Also, 8th grade you was a cute kid. Be kind to her.
Indeed!
A good read. Support the children at the athletic field and also the school board; and, sadly, the depraved State Houses
Sadly indeed...
