I’m speaking at a conference this week, so I’m going to make this lightning fast (see what I did there). Just some breadcrumbs to lay the trail—I’m counting on your yes-ands in the comments!
Spoilers below.
Little girl Rebecca in pigtails 😭😭😭😭
Psychic alert: she mothered herself in that scene, no? It reminded me of Ted’s breathing exercise earlier in the season in which he repeated “He’s okay.” The “he” was Henry, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that he was also talking about himself. These two continue to have a powerful connection (though I still don’t want them to get together).
~
Rebecca’s “Is this a f***ing joke” to the billionaires: exactly what Trent said in the very first episode.
Her speech was impeccable. What incredible growth for our girl: seeing the humanity in Rupert, calling him (and the other businessmen) to their finest selves—but keeping excellent boundaries when Rupert makes a move.
Anthony Head played that scene so well. He’s spent so many episodes being an over the top malignant narcissist, it’s helpful to see a moment of genuineness. That twinkle in his eye. It helps us appreciate why Rebecca fell for him in the first place.

I want only good things for Ms. Bowen.

Cristo Fernandez must have had so much fun playing Dani against type. The crushing of the chips… lol.

A piece of glass in Edwin’s food: callback to the fiction Higgins wrote last season. Just because they could!

I really hate that Sam has a sworn enemy. I seriously find it very upsetting.
Some friends and I were speculating recently on Sam’s Enneagram number. I had him pegged as a One for a variety of reasons. Then tonight, when Rebecca says she’s sorry he didn’t make the Nigerian team, he says reflexively, “I could have worked harder.” Blaming himself, assuming that he’d fallen short? I rest my case.

Jamie wearing number 24 for Sam 😭 (I’ll try not to use too many crying emojis this post but it’s haaaaaard) Jamie continues to be the MVP of the season. Attending the Uncle Day festivities. Bringing a gift. He seemed to relish being part of a family ritual.
~
Nate’s dad: I bought it. Did you? I have friends who are children of immigrant parents and it’s a story they’ve shared.
Nick Mohammed continues to kill it. If you watch again, notice how little he speaks, yet how much he does.

Roy and Keeley’s reunion was almost a bit of a letdown, but I think it was deliberately underwritten. Roy can wax poetic when he wants to, but he kept it really simple, which is probably more realistic. No grand gestures or flourishes, just complete accountability (our theme from season one).
~
Speaking of accountability: Nate apologizes to Will first. Starts at the “bottom.”
~
Keeley’s story arc has been one of the most controversial of the season with the fans and critics. I’m sorry we won’t get to see much if any of the ebullient strutting Keeley we loved in seasons one and two. But whether we get to it or not in the two episodes remaining (😭 again), we will finish the series knowing that Keeley is back on her way. And with Barbara at her side!
After all, shit helps things grow!
~
I love that Roy wore Phoebe’s shirt not just once, but repeatedly. Icon.
Then puts on Keeley’s robe. Clothing himself with items from the women in his life. Getting in touch with his feminine side?

The Canadian announcers were Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie from Whose Line Is It Anyway!! When they apologize for the language 🤣
The apologies in this episode: Roy’s simple note, and Nate’s big gesture with Will. The entire spectrum.
